Who is bigger: Satyameva Jayate or Aamir Khan?

In “The Adventure of the Silver Blaze”, Sherlock Holmes was investigating a murder with police. Inspector asked

“Is there any point to which you would wish to draw my attention?”

“To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time”

“The dog did nothing in the night-time”

“That was the curious incident,” remarked Sherlock Holmes.

Similarly, when I saw Aamir Khan cry on the show, there are only 2 scenarios possible

  1. He certainly has not done extensive research OR
  2. He is “acting” in front of cameras
Aamir Khan crying in Satyameva Jayate

But a part of mine would say, “Gagan, being a SRK fan, you are just being biased. If, with some glamour and emotional quotient, people start paying attention to some social causes, its good.”

There, I did it again… My chain of thoughts started with Satyameva Jayate and I ended up discussing Aamir Khan. Man, it happens everytime…

To me, Satyameva Jayate is a fantasic show:

  1. It expresses the concern through an individual rather than group which is more effective as per research
  2. It highlights the evils are happening “among us” and not somewhere.
  3. It brings the experiences of experienced people who have handled the issue effectively.
  4. It spreads the name of a certain NGO, through which we can be more aware and provide assistance.
  5. Make us aware of the pending cases that should have been brought to justice long ago and strengthens the voice through public support to some extent. (Media has proved to be a powerful tool in many such cases)

When I watch the show, I feel bad, ashamed and believe it should not happen but as soon as it is over, all the horrors are forgotten and, if a discussion crops up about Satyameva Jayate, its completely about Aamir Khan rather than issues. The Best Khan…

Somewhere down the line, I always return to square one.

Satyameva Jayate is a new show… and its concept has proven to be successful in terms of TRP. Other producers are going to capitalize on this idea too, and there would be a flood of such type of shows. So, let’s realize we have a good thing here and ask

Do I really feel their pain and want to change which I look forward to?

OR

Just simply keep gasping at the horrors everytime they are shown, be a victim of exploitation by producer and wake up next with no memory of what we witnessed a few hours before?

Lets hope next time we debate on how to eradicate the problems rather than criticizing/doting the host…

Well thought out – but what really strikes is

1 Why have the views of the opposing side not been accommodated in any of the episodes. What we are shown is only one side of the entire matter. The issues are extremely relevant no doubt but the serial condemns and brands people without giving them an opportunity to put across their view point.

    2. Which is bigger? The anchor or the issue. The serial makes out as if the issues came to fore only after Aamir”s “RESEARCH” or that action will be taken only after his intervention. This puts to Zero the pioneering effort put in by innumerable people who have gone unreported.

according to me this program is just to show the mirror to the society for what ailments it is suffering from. We cannot deny that the darker side shown in this show, also agreeing to the fact that these cases are many times manipulated and are exploited in their own way as there are always 2 sides of a coin. But if both the oppositions would have been brought to the show then it would have been just another debate show where both of the blame and shout and abuse each other forgetting the dignity of the show.
There used to be a talk show called ZINDAGI LIVE where only the suffering party was used to be called just to make sure that we are aware of the emotional and physical trauma they had undergone because of one of these social evils.
Even if 1 person who have been somehow involved in such a wrong doing realises and reforms himself/herself the purpose would be fulfilled.

And yes Amir Khan is an icon and has done many wrong things himself of which many people are aware but if the show would have been owned by an ordinary person with unexposed personal history then people would either have accepted the show more easily or would have tried evry bit to dig out his/her past. Its about perception, whether u want to bring the change and acept your defaults or just play a blame game and keep on procrastinating the dream of a better world to live in.

        Dear Anonymous,

Just saw today’s episode of Satyameva Jayate. The one thing that struck me is why there was no call from the show to shut down all the liquor factories in India and totally ban the import of the same. This is tantamount to blaming just the addict for his addiction but letting the peddler continue the substance with all legal help and support.

This just goes to show and prove my point the show is totally blinkered and one-sided and thus not take into account the harsh and true realities of Life.

I know the counter-argument is what would the farmers cultivating grapes and tobacco and the hundreds of thousands of labourers employed there do for a livelihood. This argument is specious, self-contradictory, fallacious and ridiculous. It only goes to show how shallow and mentally bankrupt we as a nation have become wherein to sustain the livelihood of few lakhs, we are putting to grave risk the entire generations of our society…
